Ganesha, who is also called Ganapati, is the elephant-headed god of wisdom and success. He supports undertakings and is one of the most popular gods in India. Ganesha statues are therefore often given as gifts at business openings.
His elephant head is considered a sign of wisdom and features a broken tusk. It is said that he lost this in a fight or that he dedicated it to Vyasa, the author of the Maha Bharata (famous Indian epic). At his feet sits a rat, which symbolizes the shrewdness and intelligence of the god - similar to the fox in our West.
