Hatsune Neri-koh incense balls
1,000 years ago, the Japanese made healing pills from a mixture of wood, herbs and spices kneaded with honey and fruits. This unique art, mentioned in the "Tale of Prince Genji", has survived the centuries and is now known as Neri-Koh.
Carefully selected ingredients are ground by hand to preserve their flavor, and then blended with honey and plum jam to obtain the optimal moisture content. The mixture is stored in an airtight glass container and buried in a humid place where it matures naturally. After at least three years, the mixture is used to make small Neri Koh balls. The scent of neri coh depends on several factors, including the time of year, the storage of the aromatic wood, and the humidity during preparation. Each individual ball gives off a unique scent due to this variety of parameters.
The application is varied: you can heat the sphere on a mika crystal over Japanese charcoal, or simply place it near a glowing coal to diffuse the healing fragrance in the air.
It is important not to light the Neri Koh ball directly.
