Kuan Yin, originally known as Avalokiteswara ("the Lord Who Beholds the World"), is a highly revered manifestation of the Buddha that appears in Chinese writings around 400 AD. Kuan Yin means "one who hears the cries of the world" and personifies the Buddha's compassion for those in need. She embodies the Yin principle.

Kuan Yin is the Chinese goddess of protective love. She is depicted in the majestic pose of Serenity (Royal Ease) and is a detailed replica of the statue on display at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, USA.
