Balanced and warm sound
These Shrutiboxes impress with their warm and full sound, often described as meditative and spiritual. The Shrutibox produces a continuous, unchanging tone, also known as a drone. The instrument is tuned to 432 Hz and covers 1-3 octaves with half tones, for a total of 13-36 reeds from C-C (octaves depend on chosen variant).
The Shrutibox is easy to play
Simply set it up and open it, operate the bellows on one side and open the individual keys on the other as desired. The sound can be varied by adjusting the intensity of the air supply and by opening or closing the keys. Tip: the small shrutibox is easy to play while dancing because it is light and handy. The shrutibox can produce a sound that is both gentle and powerful, depending on how the player operates the bellows. It can also produce a variety of timbres and dynamics depending on how the player covers and uncovers the holes on the top of the box.
How the Indian instrument works
The Shrutibox (Surpeti) is an instrument originating from India that is played using hand-operated bellows. The instrument is similar to the Indian harmonium, but without keys. The sound is produced by fine metal reeds inside the Shrutibox, which are vibrated by the passing air. The individual notes or chords are produced by opening the corresponding flaps. By the way, shruti simply means octave.

Note
Although our Shruti boxes are manufactured in India with great care and attention to detail, the surface finish cannot be expected to meet Western standards. Small scratches and similar features are part of the character of every shruti box and show that each instrument is handmade and unique. However, this does not affect the quality of the instrument.
