Traditional Manufacturing
Nepal and India have a long tradition of producing singing bowls. The production takes place in small workshops and is a strenuous process. Initially, a metal disc is heated to a glowing temperature. Then, several men manually hammer a bowl out of the disc with great force and skill. Like with blacksmithing, numerous heating and hammering processes are required to reach the final shape, and this process can take several hours.
Finally, the bowl is smoothed before it gains its beautiful shine through extensive hand polishing. Due to the handmade nature and the slightly varying metal composition, no bowl ever sound exactly the same.
Made from bronze, an alloy of copper and tin.
